As scientists, we strive to understand biological complexity and advance medicine while testing the limits of existing methods of study. We have developed state-of-the-art technology at our world-class facilities and provide unique resources and training for investigators. We offer these services to New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) scientists and those from external research organizations. Below are examples of our research platforms.

Our Data Analytic Services Laboratory provides statistical consulting and analytical services using statistical and scientific software appropriate for the aims and goals of the research project.

We have experience with a wide range of studies and scientific data, including experimental, quasi-experimental, behavioral intervention, pre-post, cross-sectional, and time-series. We implement various statistics and techniques, including descriptive, bivariate, multivariate, linear, logistic, multinomial, factor analysis, generalized estimating equations, spatial mapping, and mixed models.

Our services include:

  • Collaborating on the development of study designs
  • Sample size/power calculations
  • Writing statistical analysis plans
  • Data management
  • Conducting planned and ad-hoc study analyses
  • Generating summary tables/figures/reports
  • Writing statistical sections for manuscripts

Our Electron and Confocal Microscopy Core Facility provides in-house investigators and external clients with state-of-the-art equipment for high-resolution image acquisition and analysis of biological samples. We provide access to expert assistance with various techniques in electron and confocal microscopy as well as consultation in experimental design for optimization of data generation, data analysis, presentation, and publication.

Using our FEI Tecnai Spirit Transmission Electron Microscope, RMC MTX Ultramicrotome, and Zeiss LSM 880 with Airyscan Confocal Microscope, we are adept at performing Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) to examine the ultrastructure of cells, tissues, and macromolecules, and Laser-Scanning Confocal Microscopy to provide high-resolution fluorescent images of whole mount or sectioned specimens.
