New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has officially recognized September 4, 2025, as National Blood Donation Day, recognizing the vital role blood donors play in saving lives and sustaining the health of our communities.

The proclamations underscore the ongoing need for blood donations, which help patients facing surgeries, trauma, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and other life-threatening conditions.

“On behalf of New Jersey Blood Services, we are deeply grateful to Governor Kehoe and Governor Kelly for highlighting the critical importance of blood donation,” said Jeannie Mascolino, Vice President of New Jersey Blood Services and New York Blood Center. “This recognition not only honors the generosity of our donors, but also shines a light on the constant need for blood to help patients in our hospitals and communities every day.”

This collective recognition comes at an especially important time. The summer months, especially around holiday weekends like Labor Day, bring a sharp drop in blood donations as residents celebrate the end of summer and prepare for the upcoming school year.

New Jersey Blood Services and New York Blood Center are proud to join in celebrating this important recognition and encourages all eligible donors to schedule an appointment to give blood. Make an appointment today: Donate Blood – New York Blood Center (NYBC).
