New York Blood Center (NYBC) recently wrapped up the second annual “Harrison vs. Rye High School Blood Donation Competition,” a friendly community challenge inspired by the legendary local football rivalry known as “The Game.” The annual tradition encourages students, families, alumni, faculty, and community members to rally behind their school while supporting patients in need.

Over the two weeks leading up to the game, donors came together at school drives, local community locations, and the NYBC Rye Donor Center. Harrison High School took home the trophy for the second consecutive year with 55 lifesaving donations. In total, the competition garnered 102 donations across both communities. This is 31 donations more than last year’s competition, and will impact the lives of more than 300 hospital patients.
At the game on Saturday, October 17, local officials and school administrators joined NYBC representatives on the field for the trophy presentation. Attendees presenting the trophy to Harrison High School included Rye Mayor Josh Nathan, Westchester County Legislator Anant Nambiar, Harrison Mayor Tom Scappaticci, Rye High School Principal Andrew Hara, Harrison High School Principal Kimberly Beukema, Harrison Assistant Principal Larry Mastrota, NYBC Account Manager Natasha Chattar, and Business Development Manager Adriana Alston.
“What began as a friendly rivalry has become a meaningful opportunity for students, families, and community members to come together and make a lifesaving difference,” said Jeannie Mascolino, Vice President of Blood Operations at NYBC.
Both Harrison and Rye High Schools proved to be true champions for their communities, demonstrating that teamwork, heart, and spirit extend far beyond the gridiron, and we thank them for their partnership.
