New Yorkers skip the line for tickets to Shakespeare in the Park’s iconic performances of The Winter’s Tale by donating blood and saving lives in their community
New York Blood Center (NYBC), The Mount Sinai Hospital, and The Public Theater partnered to save lives by hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, August 4, at The Mount Sinai Hospital. More than 250 individuals came to donate, and almost 40% were first-time blood donors.
The first 200 people who registered for the blood drive received a coveted voucher for two tickets to The Public’s free Shakespeare in the Park performance of THE WINTER’S TALE. The vouchers may be used at any performance of THE WINTER’S TALE, which ends its run on August 23.
“We’re grateful to partner with The Mount Sinai Hospital and The Public Theater to celebrate the generosity of our blood donors,” said Jeannie Mascolino, Vice President, Blood Operations at New York Blood Center. “We encourage New Yorkers to be part of an iconic New York tradition that gives back in more ways than one, and we are thrilled to share our mission to save lives with all New Yorkers.”
The blood drive follows an especially difficult summer marked by an unprecedented two blood emergencies declared after local inventory fell to its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic.
These challenges were not unique to the tri-state region. Blood centers across the country faced similarly low inventories throughout the summer, underscoring the importance of a strong, consistent donor base to ensure blood is available for patients when they need it.
