This move underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in delivering lifesaving services to our customers.

We want to assure you that we are dedicated to maintaining continuity of service and minimizing any disruptions during this transition. Below, we have outlined key updates regarding laboratory services:

Immunohematology Laboratory – Serological Workups

  • Until March 9, 2025: Normal operations will continue.
  • During March 10-24 , 2025: Samples will be vetted, triaged, and distributed to other NYBCe Immunohematology Reference Laboratories (IRLs) for testing.
  • Starting March 17, 2025: All patient samples must be sent directly to our Rye Campus: 601 Midland Ave, Rye, NY 10580

Antigen-Negative, Washed, or Frozen Blood Orders

  • We do not anticipate any changes with providing Ag neg blood orders
  • March 14-24, 2025: Routine washed, and frozen blood products will not be available.

However, in extreme emergencies, the Rhode Island Blood Center will attempt to process and fulfill washed RBC orders,
though delays may occur.

  • Starting March 19, 2025: Washed and frozen blood product orders will resume processing at our Rye Campus.

We will collaborate closely with hospitals to meet specific needs, including support for sickle cell RBC exchange procedures and Thalassemia clinic patients, during this transitional period.

Genomics Laboratory

  • March 13-19, 2025: There may be temporary delays in reporting turnaround times:
    • Precise Type HEA reporting: delay up to additional 2 business days.
    • All other reporting (e.g., RH, ABO): delays up to additional 10 business days.

We are committed to minimizing any impact on reporting times and ensuring a seamless transition.

HLA Laboratory

  • From March 13, 2025: Samples must be shipped to 601 Midland Ave, Rye, NY 10580.
  • High-Resolution HLA Typing:
    • Samples received on or after March 10, 2025, will be resulted by the week of March 24, 2025.
  • HLA Matched Platelet Workups:
    • No STAT testing will be performed from March 12 – March 19, 2025.
    • For urgent cases, testing can be coordinated with Rogosin Institute to minimize delays.

We anticipate minimal disruptions to the standard 10-day turnaround time for routine testing.
